Former Mayor's Record Expunged

TOPEKA, Kan. - Former mayor and convicted felon, Doug Wright, is now free to pursue a teaching career in Kansas. Division Two Judge Richard Anderson ruled Thursday to expunge Wright's record.

Wright spent time in prison after misusing the money of his great aunt while serving as her Power of Attorney. She has since passed away.

Wright said he is grateful and delighted with the court's decision, but has a long road ahead. "I've taken a number of steps already and I've got a number yet to do," Wright said. "But I appreciate the court recognizing the effort that I have taken to this point and I feel like he's supportive of what I'm going to be doing in the future."

Wright must still be approved by the State Board of Education.
