Outside eyes might be taking over the case related to the shootings of two Topeka men in an incident involving four off-duty Topeka Police officers.

Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor will ask County Commissioners Monday to appoint Johnson County Assistant District Attorney Cindi Carle as a special prosecutor in the 2008 shooting of brothers Daniel and Devin Llamas.

If approved, Taylor says Carle would take over all aspects of the investigation.

The Llamas' were shot outside a southwest Topeka home last March 18th. Both suffered critical injuries. Police has been called to the home for loud music earlier in the night.

Officer Jason Judd has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 26th on two counts of aggravated battery.

Previous D.A. Robert Hecht said no other charges would be filed. But Taylor said it would be within the authority of the special prosecutor to expand or modify the case, including filing additional charges, if she felt it was warranted.
