Topeka police have a man in custody after he fled police this morning.
Topeka Police say officers tried to stop 27-year old Tevon Stokes for traffic violations around 9:30am Friday, but he took off, leading police on a chase through downtown which reached speeds up to 80 miles-per-hour. At some point, police say he threw something out the window which could have been drugs.
Police say Stokes later lost control around a corner, hitting a car with a woman and five children inside. He got out of his car and ran, but police took him into custody at 10am near 17th and Harrison.
Stokes was arrested on numerous traffic charges, driving on a suspended drivers license, and possession of drugs.
The woman and children were not injured.
