MULVANE, Kan. (AP) _ An official with the Mulvane Fire Department in south-central Kansas remembers a former volunteer firefighter killed in an Alabama shooting rampage as a woman who could hold her own with any of her male cohorts.

Capt. Lowell Ester of the Mulvane Fire Department knew Andrea D. Myers from her time as a volunteer firefighter from 2002 to 2004.

Ester says Myers was also a loving mother and wife.

The 31-year-old woman and her 18-month old daughter, Corrine Gracy Myers, were among those killed by a gunman who targeted relatives and others in a roughly 20-mile trail of carnage in south Alabama on Tuesday.

Andrea and her husband, Josh Myers, lived in Mulvane before moving to Alabama about a year ago. He also was a volunteer firefighter who served as a police officer in Belle Plaine.
