KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ A 7-year-old boy who was going home from
school was killed Monday when he was struck by a Kansas City fire
truck on its way to an accident.
The boy died about 3:40 p.m. Monday about a block away from his
school.
The Kansas City Star reported that the boy's relatives
identified the boy as Obarimomoya Nkani. The family emigrated from
Nigeria about nine years ago. He died at the scene of the accident.
Kansas City police are investigating the accident.
Kansas City Police Capt. Rich Lockhart said preliminary reports
indicate the fire truck had its lights and sirens running. He said
the boy was in a crosswalk when the fire truck hit him but noted
that pedestrians are required to yield to emergency vehicles.
