A Topeka man is convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the fatal stabbing of a man over $20. A Shawnee County District Court jury on Tuesday convicted 42-year-old Darwin David Law in the stabbing of 45-year-old Jon A. Chiselom on Sept. 19 in an apartment.
Prosecutors say the dispute over $20 led Chiselom to take a duffel bag belonging to Law's girlfriend as he left the apartment. Law then followed and kicked Chiselom down a stairway outside the apartment.
Prosecutors say Law then stabbed Chiselom at the bottom of the stairs. A defense attorney argued Chiselom ran back up the stairs
attacking Law, who reacted in self defense. The jury decided against the more serious charge of voluntary manslaughter.
