HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) _ A Hutchinson man has been sentenced to
life in prison for stabbing his wife to death on Christmas Eve.
Thirty-year-old Stephen Jones will not be eligible for parole for 25 years under the sentence imposed Thursday in Reno County District Court.
During the hearing, an apologetic Jones says he pleaded guilty last month to first-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Sabrina Jones to avoid dragging her family through a trial.
Sabrina Jones was the mother of three children, ages 4 to 12. But they were staying with another relative when their mother died.
Her ex-husband, Jason Friesen, was among the relatives who spoke
during the hearing. He also is the father of her two oldest children.
He blames Stephen Jones for turning Christmas into a nightmare. He says the children were crying as they opened their presents.
