COFFEYVILLE, Kan. (AP) _ A bystander is dead after a bank robbery suspect opens fire during a police pursuit in the southeast Kansas town of Coffeyville.
FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton says the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash from a Bank of America branch in Coffeyville shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
She said the Coffeyville Police Department began pursuing the suspect. The chase ended when the suspect bailed out of the car and started shooting.
Patton said an ``innocent bystander'' was killed.
The suspect ran into the woods and was caught after a search. The name of the man, who has been taken into custody, was not immediately released.
Bank of America spokeswoman Diane Wagner says the bank is working with authorities. She had no further details.
