Winfield correctional facility will close a housing unit March 7th to help cut spending in the current department of corrections budget.

Corrections officials said Wednesday that closing the 176 inmate capacity unit will save about $160 thousand in the budget year.

Officials said 100 inmates will be transferred to other Winfield housing units and the remainder to other prisons.

The closing will reduce staffing by 16 employees.
