TOEPKA, Kan.-- Kansas State Representative Joe Patton is taking new measures to reduce underage drinking.
Patton tWednesday asked the Kansas House Corrections and Juvenile Justice Committee to recommend a house bill for passage.
Under current law, it is illegal for adults to host or allow minors to have parties in their homes with alcohol. Patton says the problem with the law is, most parents say they weren't aware the minors were drinking.
The proposed bill establishes recklessness as a standard in unlawfully hosting minors in a person's house, eliminating the loophole.
The committee will vote on the bill next week.
