Shawnee County Commissioners have approved a plan to start the beginning phases to replace its emergency warning sirens.

County Commissioners today voted 3-0 for the $300,000 project.

It includes replacing half of the county's 72 current sirens, upping the total number to 80, and upgrading features, such as being able to activate sirens individually.

Sterbenz asked commissioners last week to waive the bidding process and purchase from Blue Valley Public Safety - based in Grain Valley, Missouri.

Commissioners approved the request Monday, and will go ahead with Blue Valley.

The purchase will be done using temporary notes.
