Wichita Council Member Interested in Congressional Seat

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A member of the Wichita City Council is considering runnng for the 4th Congressional District in 2010.

Sue Schlapp, a Republican who has served on the council since 2003, told The Wichita Eagle that she won't rule out running for the seat currently held by Republican Todd Tiahrt, who is running for U.S. Senate.

At last five other Republicans are interested.

The district covers all or part of 11 counties in south-central Kansas and is centered on the Wichita metropolitan area.

The other potential GOP candidates are state Sens. Dick Kelsey, of Goddard; Carolyn McGinn, of Sedgwick; Susan Wagle, of Wichita; Rep. Steve Brunk, of Bel Aire, and Wichita businessman Mike Pompeo.
