Shawnee County Commission Files Lawsuit Against Hecht

The Shawnee County Commission has filed a lawsuit against former District Attorney Robert Hecht.

The suit asks the court to require Hecht to reimburse Shawnee County $482,895.

That’s the amount invoices indicate Hecht made for doing work on cases appealed from Shawnee County to higher courts.

Hecht has previously said state law allows DA's to be paid for appellate work, and he followed previously established policy.

But commissioners say the law requires commission approval, which Hecht didn't get.

They had already asked the Attorney General's office to investigate.

13 news obtained a copy of the suit filed Friday.
