Wichitan Pleads to Lesser Charge in Street Killing

WICHITA, Kan. (AP _ A man due to stand trial next week in the slaying of 19-year-old Robert Ridge in Wichita pleads guilty to a lesser charge.

Police say 20-year-old Brandon Hardyway didn't like the way someone in a car next him was looking at him, so he opened fire on the car. The bullets killed Ridge, who was a passenger in the car.

This morning Hardyway pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.

He was originally charged with first-degree murder.

Sedgwick County District Judge Joseph Bribiesca will sentence Hardyway at a later date.
