Two parakeets found on a Kansas highway were rescued from below freezing weather.

Jefferson County Humane Society Manager Donna Fannin says the birds were left on the side of K-16 January 5th. They were set along the road in their cage and found by a passerby.

One of the birds passed away a few days ago. Fannin says it was likely due to the cold temperatures. The surviving bird, Tweet, is up for adoption. You can fill out an application at the shelter.

Fannin reminds owners if you can no longer keep a pet , bring it to a shelter rather than abandoning it.
