Board of Regents Chief Executive Officer Reggie Robinson says the package will increase financial aid to students so they can afford higher education.
But he told the House Higher Education Committee on Tuesday that the stimulus package also will include money for building maintenance projects.
That's a big issue for the regents, who received a report last week that state university campuses have an $825 million backlog of projects.
Also, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' budget proposals would withhold $15 million in maintenance funds the regents had been promised after July 1.
