(Carbondale, KS)--A community gathered Saturday to pay their final respects to three children who were murdered by their father in their Scranton home on Monday.

Ethan, Ashten and Jackson Shirley died Monday in their home.

The patriot guard stood watch as people entered Carbondale Elementary, making sure no unwanted outside influences interrupted the memorial. People from Scranton, where they lived, and Carbondale, where they attended school, poured in to say goodbye one last time.

Authorities say the children's father, Michael Shirley killed them, set fire to their house then shot himself. He died of smoke inhalation. The children's mother was away at work.
