The Department of Social and Rehabilitation Service said Friday
it will take applications from Tuesday through the end of March. The program provides assistance for qualified households to pay winter heat bills. The average benefit last year of $533.23 was provided to 41,793 households.

Income eligibility guidelines are set at 130 percent of the federal poverty level. That means the monthly allowable income for a household of four would be $2,297. Applicants also must be responsible for the direct payment of their heating bills and show they have made payments on their utility bill the past three months.

Starting Tuesday, Kansans can apply online at http://www.srskansas.org
