The Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday sent the bill to the chamber for debate.
It allows federal and state prosecutors to carry concealed guns in some places where they ordinarily would be barred under Kansas law. Such places include courthouses and municipal buildings.
The measure also requires prosecutors to get extra training to carry guns.
Chairman Tim Owens said prosecutors felt they might need the added protection in some cases.
