JETMORE, Kan. (AP) _ After two years of research and planning, the western Kansas town of Jetmore will become the first in the state to own its wind energy.

Jim Ploger, of the Kansas Corporation Commission, says the town of 933 residents near Dodge City is the first to own its turbines and towers.

Currently, Jetmore gets its electricity from Midwest Energy. But when the two refurbished wind chargers begin operating by the end of the month, they will feed directly into the city's grid. That will supplement the current source by producing 12 percent of the town's wind energy.

Each tower costs $250,000 and comes with five-year operations contract. They are being built a mile east of town, on county property.
