Two Applications Submitted for Sumner School Auction

Two groups have submitted applications to participate in the auction of Topeka's historic Sumner School building.

The city had a deadline of 5 pm Thursday for pre-bid applications. The applications will be evaluated to determine if the potential bidders have proper financing to purchase the building. The city has set a minimum $50,000 bid.

The city would not release the applicants' names until Friday morning, but Community First, which previously tried to get funding for the school, confirmed Thursday night it is one of the applicants.

Another group that had expressed interested, Pioneer Group, elected not to apply to bid. President Ross Freeman says the timing simply wasn't right.

The auction is set for January 22nd.
