COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) _ The search continues for the body of a Kansas college student who jumped or fell into the Missouri River to avoid oncoming bridge traffic.

John Paul Forget, 20, of Chesterfield, was involved in a minor accident Dec. 16 on Interstate 70 near the mid-Missouri town of Rocheport. He and his passengers were walking off the bridge when Forget apparently tried to get out of the way of an oncoming tractor trailer.

The Water Patrol has said it's unclear whether Forget leapt directly off the bridge or tried to get up on the sides and slipped. Friends with him at the time have told family members he slipped because of the tight walking space between the edge of the bridge and traffic.

The patrol looked for Forget's body Wednesday and plans to search again next week.

Forget was a sophomore at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., on his way home for the holiday break.
