Fort Riley to Open Two New Child Development Centers

FORT RILEY, Kan. – Fort Riley’s Child Youth and School Services will host two ribbon cutting ceremonies in January to celebrate the opening of two new child development centers at Fort Riley.

The first ribbon cutting ceremony, for the Forsyth Child Development Center, will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 9 in Camp Forsyth. The second ceremony, for the Whitside Child Development Center, will be at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 23 near Irwin Army Community Hospital.

The two new child development centers are both 198-space facilities and are two of six child development centers expected to be completed by December 2010 at Fort Riley. The new facilities are approved by the Chief of the Army as part of an accelerated strategy to meet the demands of child care within the Army and to enhance the quality of life for Soldiers and their Families.

By the year 2012, Fort Riley is expected to be able to assist more than 2,000 additional Families with their child care needs.
