TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ It paid to be a little pudgy in Kansas yesterday.

Tolls for drivers leaving the Kanas Turnpike on Topeka's east side were paid by New York company Sterling Publishing, which is promoting the book ``I Can Make You Thin,'' by Paul McKenna.

Promoters said the five-state highway promotion was a way to reach a lot of people.

Also, they were looking for cities with high obesity rates.

Toll booths were plastered with ads for the book. Commuters arriving in Topeka between 7 and 9 a.m. had their tolls paid by the book promoters. Other cities targeted were Miami, Chicago, Philadelphia and two locations in Alabama.
