FORT RILEY, Kan. – Stedman Graham, the chairman and chief executive officer of Stedman Graham and Associates, will be the featured speaker at the Martin Luther King Jr. observance at 11:45 a.m. Jan. 14 at Riley’s Conference Center. Graham overseas a Chicago-based corporation and marketing firm.
The observance, hosted by the 1st Infantry Division Equal Opportunity Office, will celebrate the life and times of King.
The theme for this year’s observance is “Remember, Celebrate, Act; a Day on, not a Day off.” Graham is the author of two books, “You Can Make it Happen, a Nine-Step Plan for Success” and “Teens Can Make it Happen, Nine Steps to Success,” said Sgt. 1st Class Reginald Lucas, 1st Inf. Div. EO noncommissioned officer in charge.
King was a civil rights activist who died fighting for justice and freedom for all. President Ronald Reagan designated Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a federal holiday in 1986, but King’s birthday actually had been recognized by his hometown of Atlanta as a holiday since 1983.
The observance is free and open to the public. Soldiers, civilians and Family members are encouraged to attend.
