Special traffic enforcement efforts paid off New Year's Eve night.

The Shawnee County Jail reports eight people booked in for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Topeka Police expected to release further details of their enforcement efforts Friday. TPD planned to have extra officers working voluntary overtime to target impaired drivers.

Many people avoided driving by taking advantage of a free cab ride home.

Topeka's Yellow Cab teamed up with AAA Kansas and Mothers Against Drunk Driving for the "Care Cab" program in Shawnee County. They report giving 112 rides to New Year's Eve partygoers.

Briggs Auto Group also sponsored its "Tab for the Cab" program in Topeka, Manhattan and Junction City.
