Community Continues to Rally Around Sick Girl

TOPEKA, Kan. - A community rallying together to help the family of a 12-year-old girl battling a blood disease and going through chemotherapy.

Jessica Seidel is still at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. Her dad, David, says she's not doing well today.

Jessica had a fever Friday night of 104 and doctors are upping her pain medications.

Jessica had her ninth round of chemo Friday. Doctors are also saying she now has some type of blood infection.

Her dad and little brother, Jordan, were able to visit her for a little while in Kansas City Friday.

We first told you the story of a classmate of Jessica's at Washburn Rural Middle School, Drake Herrman.

Drake started a community effort to help out the Seidels by asking the money for his Christmas gift - a Wii - be given to Jessica's parents to help as they have to pay for gas back and forth to Kansas City, medications, groceries and medical bills.

Best Buy and a secret santa both donated Wii's to Drake for Christmas. Drake's mom has helped organize an auction for the second Wii and an iTouch to help raise more money for the Seidels.

The auction will be held when school starts again in January. A fund in set up for the Seidels at Heritage Bank, Topeka. Read updates on Jessica's condition at www.caringbridge.org/visit/jessica16.
