The number of claims from jobless Kansas
workers seeking their first unemployment benefits increases again
The 16,000 claims were 67 percent higher than they were in
November 2007. The state also saw a 67 percent increase in October,
compared with October 2007.
The Department of Labor attributes the higher claims to the
ongoing economic slump.
But it also says the Kansas economy is healthier than the
national one. The state had slightly more people employed, about
1.4 million, in November than in November 2007.
The unemployment rate in November was 4.8 percent, up from 4.4
percent in October. The jobless rate in November 2007 was 3.8
