WINFIELD, Kan. (AP) _ A judge decides an Arkansas City man is declared competent to stand trial for capital murder in the death of 19-year-old Jodi Sanderholm.

Cowley County Attorney Chris Smith told reporters after a competency hearing Tuesday of the decision by Cowley County District Judge Jim Pringle.

Twenty-five-year-old Justin Thurber is back at the Cowley County Jail after a mental evaluation at the Larned State Hospital.

Attorneys from both sides were present at Tuesday's closed hearing.

Pringle had ordered the mental evaluation for Thurber, who is accused of raping and killing Sanderholm in January 2007. Her body was found in the Kaw Wildlife Area several days after she went missing.

Sanderholm was a student at Cowley County Community College and a member of the school's dance team.
