ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ A Cowley County judge is expected to decide Tuesday whether a 25-year-old Arkansas City man is competent to stand trial for capital murder in the death of 19-year-old Jodi Sanderholm.
Cowley County District Judge Jim Pringle in October ordered a mental evaluation for James Thurber, who is accused of raping and killing Sanderholm in January 2007. Her body was found in the Kaw Wildlife Area several days after she went missing.
Thurber has been undergoing a mental evaluation at Larned State Hospital.
Sanderholm was a student at Cowley County Community College and a member of the school's dance team.
She was last seen Jan. 5, 2007, at a Subway restaurante in Arkansas City. Her car was found four days later in a lake about eight miles away.
