A man is accused of leading police on an eight mile trek Monday afternoon near Holton and shooting at a police dog. Authorities say it happened around 12:30 p.m. on US-75 highway just south of Holton.

An officer tried to pull a car over for a traffic violation but the driver wouldn't stop. The vehicle 37-year-old John Bradshaw was driving finally gave out on a country road. That's when Bradshaw got out of the car with a handgun and began shooting, hitting the officer's dog.

The officer and Bradshaw exchanged more gunfire until Bradshaw finally gave up. The officer was not injured, but the dog is in satisfactory condition.

Bradshaw was treated at a local hospital and released. He is being held on multiple charges at the Jackson County Detention Center.
