Under the plan, Westar Energy-backed Prairie Wind would build a 765-kilovolt line from Wichita to Liberal and then to the Oklahoma border. ITC, which is owned by a Michigan company, would build a line from Wichita to Spearville and then to the Nebraska border.
The lines would carry six times the power of regular power lines. They're considered crucial for delivering future wind power from rural areas to more developed parts of Kansas and beyond.
The KCC must still approve the proposal.
