New Casino Deadlines Expecteed from Commission

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Lottery Commission is considering procedures for new applications to operate state-owned casinos in Wyandotte and Sumner counties.

The commission is expected to set new deadlines for casino applications today.

Harrah's Entertainment Inc. pulled out of Sumner County and a partnership of Kansas Speedway and Baltimore-based Cordish Company withdrew its application for Wyandottee County, with plans to rework and resubmit it.

Penn National Gaming Inc. walked away from its Cherokee County contract. New applications for Crawford and Cherokee counties are due Jan. 21.

Last week, the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission gave final approval to Butler National Service Corp. to build and manage a casino in Dodge City.
