Governor Kathleen Sebelius is requesting all flags be flown at half staff in honor of Pearl Harbor Rememberance Day.
“On December 7, 1941, 2,400 Americans lost their lives in a surprise attack on our nation’s shores," said Governor Kathleen Sebelius.
“On National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we recognize the service and sacrifice of those who gave their lives for our freedom on this date and throughout World War II. Their selfless commitment to protecting our country represents the true strength of the American spirit.
“I have directed flags be flown at half-staff on Sunday, December 7, throughout State of Kansas facilities and buildings. I urge all Kansans to do the same at their homes and businesses to honor those who died because of their service at Pearl Harbor," said Gov. Sebelius
President George W. Bush issued a proclamation requesting all federal institutions lower their flags on National Pearl Harbor Day and asked states to follow suit.
