Topeka STEP Effort Nets Results

Topeka Police stayed busy on the streets over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Results of their special enforcement campaign released Friday show officers working135 hours of overtime issued 283 citations from November 24th thru the 30th.

Those include 100 speeding, 7 child restraint and 60 seat belt citations. Officers also arrested 11 people for driving under the influence, served 5 city warrants, arrested 3 people for transporting open containers and arrested 2 people for drug possession.

Officers working regular shifts made an additional 11 DUI arrests.

The next STEP (Special Traffic Enforcement Program) mobilization is May 18th thru May 31st. The program is paid for through a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation, Bureau of Traffic Safety.
