WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Elgin Robinson receives the recommended sentence of life in prison at a hearing that led to a ruckus in a Sedgwick County courtroom.
District Judge Ben Burgess on Friday dealt Robinson the sentence in the 2006 murder-for-hire of 14-year-old Chelsea Brooks, his pregnant girlfriend. He was convicted in October of capital murder, kidnapping and rape.
The Wichita Eagle reported on its Web site that Robinson apologized to Brooks' family, but angered them when he added ``don't mistake this as me taking responsibility.''
Later Chelsea's father, Darren Brooks, and Robinson's mother, Irene Reed, got into a shouting match after Reed yelled ``Enough is enough'' as Brooks family members gave impact statements.
Reed was removed from the courtroom, and Brooks' family and friends applauded Robinson was taken away in shackles.
