A vacant home near 16th and Chandler was fully engulfed when fire crews arrived.
It happened around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon - the second of two fires Friday in Topeka.
The roof partially collapsed, forcing fire crews to work in defensive mode from the outside.
Also a concern, the heavy brush surrounding the home.
"That was the first thing - to prevent the fire from spreading into the woods. The house was gone so we wanted to keep it out of the woodlands, said Robert Martin, TFD Shift Commander.
Fire crews are investigating what caused the blaze.
