An alleged drunk hit and run driver is to blame for a power outage in east Topeka Saturday morning.

Police say just before 12:15 a.m. a Shawnee County Deputy was nearly t-boned by an SUV that ran a red light at the intersection of southeast 6th and California.

The female driver tried to make a get-away but hit a utility pole near the 500 block of southeast Liberty.

That caused a power outage extending from Branner to Golden, from 6th Street north.

The driver then ran from the accident.

A K-9 officer was able to find her soon after.

The 23-year-old woman faces charges of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.

Most of the electrical service to that area was restored by 4 a.m.
