TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ State officials are warning Kansans about
scammers requesting donations for the Kansas Amber Alert Program.

Attorney General Steve Six says callers falsely claim to be raising money to upgrade the Amber Alert system, which spreads news
about missing and abducted children. Six's office says the state is
not seeking donations from the public.

The scam has been reported in Osage County, but it may be taking place in other counties as well.

Anyone receiving the pitch is asked to call the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division (1-800-432-2310).

Six's office also encourages Kansans to research charities before donating money. For information on that, go to www.ksag.org.
