A Salina child care center is under investigation by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

KDHE issued an Emergency Order of Suspension Monday against Sharing and Caring, Inc., 663 S. Ninth St. in Salina.

In its order, KDHE says it did a joint survey with SRS. The order says children were being grabbed and yanked by their arms and children were being threatened. In addition, the order says a lead staff member and the director were force-feeding children "by holding their mouths open, pinching their faces and pouring milk down their throats. Several times children have vomited by having this done."

KDHE says the center is licensed for 17 children, ages two-and-a-half to school age. Its license was first issued in March 2000.

The center may appeal the order.
