A boot camp for female inmates is falling victim to the budget crunch.

The Kansas Department of Corrections said Tuesday that it's terminating its contract with Labette County for operation of the Labette Women's Correctional Conservation Camp at Oswego.

The state has had both a women's and men's camp as a sentencing alternative between probation and prison.

The contract for the women's camp will end effective January 1, 2009. Corrections Secretary Roger Werholtz says the move will save the state $483,00 in the current fiscal year and $1 million the next.
