TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Sunflower Electric Power Corp. has filed a federal lawsuit in its latest bid to get a state permit to build two coal-fired power plants in western Kansas.
The lawsuit announced Tuesday asks the court to stop efforts by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and other officials to prevent Sunflower from lawfully pursuing its expansion.
Kansas Department of Health and Environment staff recommended approval of the permit, but Secretary Rod Bremby refused to issue it, citing concerns about air pollution.
