Topeka, KS (WIBW)-- A man was taken to St. Francis Hospital with reports of burns on his hands, feet, and lower legs after he tried to put out a fire that broke out at his home. Fire officials now say the burns
The fire started just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the cause is "intentionally set," according to the Topeka Fire Department. It's reported that the man tried for about a half hour to put of the flames before calling for help; he was the only one at the home at the time. The mans name and age haven't been released.
When Topeka firefighters arrived on the scene of 2137 SW Edgewater Terrace they saw flames shooting from the roof. A damage estimate about $33,000.
Michael Thompson with the Topeka Fire Department says the man has a wife and two kids and they were not home at the time.
Several witnesses calling into the TV station said 21st road was closed at the intersection of SE Edgewater while crews were on the scene. It took firefighters about a half hour to get the fire out.
