Kan. Lottery Awards Slots Contract to GTECH

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Lottery Commission has awarded
GTECH Corp. the contract to run the central computer system that
will control slot machines at state-owned casinos.
The deal is expected to generate some $20 million for
Providence, R.I.-based GTECH over its 10-year life. The central
system will monitor all slot machine activities and can cut off any
or all the machines at a casino.
Operators will build and operate the casinos and the Lottery
will own the gambling and control the machines.
Three operators are awaiting final approval by the Kansas Racing
and Gaming Commission next month. Those casinos will be in Ford,
Sumner and Wyandotte counties.
