WINFIELD, Kan. (AP) _ A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized after a house in south-central Kansas exploded in flames.

The blast was reported around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the house in rural Cowley County north of Winfield. Only the chimney was left standing.

Crews found the man's body in the rubble. The injured woman was rushed to a Winfield hospital with severe burns. Names have not been released.

Cowley County Sheriff Bob Odell says there were reports of a propane leak, but investigators haven't confirmed what caused the blast.

Odell says the house was a rental property, and new tenants were moving in.
