ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) _ When Luke Smith cast a vote for the McCain-Palin ticket, the Arkansas City man says his decision included a ``debt of honor'' to the governor of Alaska.
Sarah Palin helped Smith get his Eagle Scout Award 11 years ago when he lived in Wasilla, Alaska, where she was the mayor.
Smith was 17 and trying to finish his community project to build a wood pavilion at a new park called Wasilla Wonderland.
The City Council was blocking the plan until Palin stood up for Smith.
Palin then attended planning meetings with Smith and eventually helped the council get on board.
Smith, a Republican, says Palin is a strong, independent woman who was serious and committed to the town of Wasilla.
