The Junior League of Topeka recognized hard-working volunteers who make a difference in the community Thursday. Among them, a mother and substitute teacher.
Lisa Regnier and Brenda Wagemaker started a running club at Meadows Elementary School to get kids active. The only problem, they have no track and have to run on the sidewalks.
With kids by their side, they were awarded a surprise $14,000 to build a new track. Click the video to see their faces when given the check, as well as our full interview with them.
Also Thursday, Bill Sneed was named the community volunteer of the year for his hard work in Topeka and at Washburn University, and Judy Soule was given the gold rose award.
