33rd Annual Tinman Triathlon/Duathlon

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-Hundreds of athletes tested their endurance at the 33rd annual Topeka Tinman Triathlon and Duathlon.

Athletes crowded Lake Shawnee to compete in a long course that involves a 1,000 meter swim, 19 mile bike ride and a 7 mile run.

A sprint course and bike-run duathlon are also offered at Saturday's event.

Participants ranged in age and families came out for the heart-pumping event. A young pair, sister and brother, finished within minutes of each other.

"I love triathlons. They are my life, and I love competing, " said Holland Smith, first 15 year-old female to finish.

" I love the challenge. Coming to these inspires people to compete," said Mark Burghart, third place winner and 12th time competitor.
