LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ Lawrence city crews cleaned out a homeless camp that they say included small wooden homes that could have accomodated up to 50 people.
The cleanup on Friday came a week after two men died in the camp east of Lawrence.
Acting Parks and Recreation Director Ernie Shaw says it looked like homeless people were building a city in the nature area along the Kansas River.
Shaw says police alerted his department to camp after two men were found dead in a tent there on Oct. 24. No foul play was suspected in the men's deaths.
He says his department has removed homeless camps from the area before, but this one was much larger and more sophisticated.
