TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Republican challenger Lynn Jenkins has
proposed to cut $310 billion from the federal budget.
But that idea appears to be more about offering voters a
contrast with Democratic Rep. Nancy Boyda than providing a detailed
blueprint for shrinking the deficit.
Jenkins provided the outlines of her proposal during a televised
debate nearly two weeks ago.
Since then, her campaign for the 2nd Congressional District seat
hasn't filled in more details.
But the more details she offers, the more Boyda can criticize
what Jenkins is proposing.
Jenkins also has limited time and staff resources.
Jenkins' approach is similar to the one Democrat Kathleen
Sebelius took when she confronted the state's budget problems in
running for her first term as governor in 2002.
